Fill in the Missing Strokes Worksheets
Download Sample #1
Download Sample #2
You can use this tool to create Chinese worksheets where the students have to fill in the missing strokes or radicals of the Chinese characters. Just like in the
Fill in the Blank Worksheet Maker
,
enclose the Chinese characters or words that you would like to have missing strokes or radicals in parentheses ()
. For example, (跑)步. If no Chinese characters are enclosed in parentheses, the system will randomly pick a Chinese character for the user. If the #2 option in the Worksheet Settings box is checked, all the Chinese characters will have missing strokes or radicals. Note that the worksheet can have a word bank and/or Pinyin as hints.

To create a worksheet:
Enter the title of the new worksheet, such as
Chinese Homework #1
. The title will be shown at the top of the generated worksheets. The title is required to save the list to the server for future use.
Enter Chinese words and
enclose the Chinese character(s) that you'd like missing strokes or radicals in parentheses ()
. For example, (跑)步.
Enter the Pinyin and English of the word. Click the
Pinyin
button to add Pinyin automatically. If there are multiple pronunciations for a particular character, the system will attempt to use the right one based on its context. In some cases, the user may have to edit it themselves. Do not use punctuation marks in the Pinyin input box. Note that Pinyin must be entered with tone numbers, rather than tone marks. The system will convert them to tone marks when the worksheet PDF is generated. In addition, the Pinyin syllables must be separated by a blank space. For example, for the Chinese word 跑步, the Pinyin must be entered as pao3 bu4. Use v for ü, e.g. lv3 for lǚ, and number 5 for the neutral tone, e.g. ma5 (吗).
Click the
Add Rows
button to add more rows. Empty rows will be ignored on the generated worksheet.
Optionally, you can change the default worksheet settings. The settings are self-explanatory.
Click the
Print
button to generate the worksheets.
You can click the
Save to Server
button to save the word list to the server for future use or to use it in a different tool.
Instead of creating a new list to generate a worksheet, you can simply load a pre-made sentence list or a list created by other members to generate the worksheet.
Note that this site uses a pop-up window to display the generated worksheet. If your browser is configured to block pop-ups, you will need to allow this site to open pop-ups.
